Kenya's 9th-Generation Toyota Hilux Assembly Receives Approval Following a Quality Meeting

Posted on : Friday , 2nd October 2026

Association Vehicle Assemblers Limited (AVA) is set to begin assembling the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux in Kenya following the successful completion of a quality confirmation meeting. The introduction of the new Hilux pickup was announced by AVA, marking a significant development for Kenya’s vehicle assembly industry.

The quality confirmation meeting brought together teams from Association Vehicle Assemblers Limited (AVA), CFAO Mobility Kenya and Toyota South Africa Motors. The teams assessed pilot Toyota Hilux units to verify that they met Toyota’s global assembly and quality standards before giving approval for local production to begin.

The ninth-generation Hilux was introduced globally in 2025 and features updated exterior and interior styling while retaining its established ladder-frame construction. The pickup features a redesigned front grille with prominent “Toyota” lettering, along with slimmer headlights equipped with daytime running lights.

Depending on the market, the new Hilux is available with several powertrain options, including a 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, 2.5-litre petrol hybrid, 2.7-litre petrol engine, 2.4-litre turbo-diesel and 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine. AVA has not yet confirmed the specific powertrain options that will be assembled locally in Kenya.

The 2026 ninth-generation Hilux is designed for off-road use and offers 309 mm of ground clearance and a water-wading depth of up to 700 mm. It can carry up to 1,000 kg of cargo and has a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg when properly equipped.

Inside, the Hilux features a modernised dashboard with a larger centre console, digital instrumentation and improved connectivity features. Higher variants offer additional features such as wireless smartphone charging, extra USB-C ports, Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select and a Multi-Terrain Monitor system.

According to AVA, completing the quality confirmation process represents an important milestone for the company and demonstrates its continued commitment to maintaining high vehicle quality standards. The development also reinforces AVA’s position as a contract vehicle assembly partner and supports the growth of local vehicle manufacturing in Kenya.
