Completion of Phase 2 for Sh204.4B Solar Project Expected in 17 Months

Lazaro Twange, Managing Director of Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), made the news yesterday, July 27, 2026, at a contract-signing event to initiate the second phase of the project. Expanding the solar power facility, building a water delivery system, and building a dispensary are all part of the Sh204.4 billion project. After a 24-month defects liability period, the project's second phase will be implemented over the course of 17 months. Additionally, the initiative will give Ngunga people access to a health facility and potable water, according to Mr. Twange. The first phase of the solar power project helped roughly 300 residents, according to Kishapu District Council Chairperson Josephat Limbe. He added that more investors, especially in the industrial sector, are anticipated to be drawn to the extended project. Due to the availability of dependable power and the ongoing expansion of generation capacity, this project would encourage investors to construct companies in Kishapu. About 300 locals profited from the project during its initial phase, he said.
Ngunga hamlet Chairperson Musa Masesa stated that inhabitants were already enjoying the benefits of electricity and that the initiative has given the hamlet, which had long felt neglected, prominence. However, he stated that there were still significant obstacles to getting access to clean water and medical care. We request that the contractor make sure we receive clean water from this second phase. We have been assured that the project will provide water and healthcare services, but Ngunga locals still face significant obstacles in doing so," Mr. Masesa stated.According to Mboni Mhita, Regional Commissioner for Shinyanga, the government has allotted more than Shl.63 trillion for various regional development initiatives since President Samia Suluhu Hassan's sixth phase administration took office nearly five years ago.
She thanked the initiative on behalf of the people of Shinyanga, stating that it will boost investment prospects and improve links with the local community. According to Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi, energy is the cornerstone of growth, emphasizing that significant advancements cannot be made without a steady supply of power."This is a major investment, and the government has decided to take another step by increasing the country's energy mix," he added. "Previously, electricity had to travel long distances to reach the Lake Zone, which affected reliability."We are still on track to meet our goal of producing 8,000 megawatts by 2030, and this project will guarantee a steady supply of electricity," Mr. Ndejembi stated. The minister gave Tanesco instructions to make sure the project was finished on schedule and that the local communities profited both during and after construction.Tanesco needs to make sure that this project is finished on time and that the public benefits both during and after the implementation phase," he stated.
